Bar Review: O’Reilly’s Pub (Bugibba)

Sometimes it’s worth hearing the opinions of other people, like these ones that went to the trouble of commenting on tripadvisor.com.   I have decided to take the first line out of the first commenter on each page (at time of writing), regardless of what they say, so as to get a properly random selection of opinions.  There are TEN pages of tripadvisor comments, so it’s clearly a popular spot:

– Nice bar with very nice interior. Best i’ve seen in Malta so far. But with that comes a price. 😉

– Visited this pub on two occasions while in Bugibba, nice pint and my wife enjoyed the cocktails but if your’e not a regular the staff are not too friendly, don’t think I’ll visit again.

– We have been to O’Reilly’s many many times and we really do love it.

– If you want a large cocktail to share (or not), or even a pitcher for excellent quality and value – this is the place to go

– Quiet bar where you can sit and chill with your favourite tipple outside in the cool night air.

– Disappointed with O’Reilly’s.

– I have been going to Malta (all over) for many years but you really do have to visit O’Reillys , especially on Friday night when bands will play.

– Good pub nice atmosphere, friendly staff.

– È semplicemente un pub con un menù da pub!

– Durante il mio soggiorno a Qawra ho cenato in questo accogliente ristorante per due sere consecutive

Turns out not all of the tripadvisor comments are in English, but if you’re confused, the last two say ‘It’s simply a pub with the menu of a pub’ and ‘I went to this place twice in a row during my stay in Qawra’.  That’s what you get from Tripadvisor and other sites like it, a mix of opinions, different people with different things to say about this Irish bar in a Maltese seaside town:  It’s good value and it’s expensive;  the staff are both ‘not too friendly’ and ‘friendly’;  it’s a quiet bar and a karaoke bar and bands play there.  Thanks Tripadvisor, for clearing that up.

If you ask me, I reckon it’s a pretty nice attempt at an Irish bar.  Food is pretty decent, if not exactly for the health conscious.   I’ve only been there a couple of times, but no doubt will return.  So I haven’t seen any karaoke, but there might be when you go – Best of luck.  Likewise with the bands.  Chances are that the band playing in O’Reilly’s bar in Bugibba is not in the top one hundred bands in the world, but then who knows?  Looks like a nice place, and I’m looking forward to getting back there.

  1. I went here one! I went for the ENORMOUS cocktails and they certainly aren’t expensive… €10 and it was bigger than my head. I think I have a picture of it on the blog somewhere. I quite liked it, the cocktails were cheap and tasty, the choice was big. I didn’t eat though, but I found the staff pretty friendly but no marriage proposals or anything… but what do people expect? I’ll definitely go back, I highly recommend ‘The Panty Remover’
