You remember the Secret Bookshop don’t you? No? Well it’s this one. Now go back and read everything I wrote between December 2011 and February 2012 as punishment.
Anyhow, you’ll be glad to hear that I have uncovered another couple of obscure book-sellers on the back streets of Bugibba and St Paul’s Bay.
The example shown is from a rather haphazard collection in the back room of what I am going to call a ‘general store’, for want of a better description. The shop in question is near the San Antonio Hotel on Tourist Street and you will recognise it when you see some of the books and dvds on display outside the door. If you show the slightest interest in a book the owner will shepherd you towards his backroom bookshop.
There is a more traditional bookshop in the area too, a rather famous one if this article is anything to go by, called ‘Tommy’s Bookshop’. Famous? Maybe. But whatever about his book-selling ability, Tommy is certainly no marketeer, so I doubt too many tourists are aware of the existence of this particular shop.
Don’t worry Tommy, I will do some advertising for you here.
The shop is rather imposing for a second-hand bookshop, as you can see from the picture below, and is located on Triq il Lampuki which is just off the main Mosta road running through St Paul’s. He’s got a decent selection of books, (somewhat randomly displayed), and promises to refund half the price if you return the book when you’re done with it.
So don’t let the internet win – go and buy yourself a paperback while you’re here.
