Azure (Blue) Window

If you plan on visiting Malta to marvel at the beautiful rockscape of the Blue Window in

Gozo, I suggest you don’t wait for your retirement to do so.  Because it won’t be around for too much longer according to experts, so you might want to catch it while you can.  In April 2012 a large chunk fell from the side of the arch, and the local government is resigned to the fact that eventually the entire structure will collapse, leaving just a column of rock sticking out of the water.  This will be rather less impressive than the window in it’s current form, and Gozo will lose one of it’s major attractions.

The Gozo ministry hired a UK consultancy firm to look into ways of slowing down the inevitable, but they seem to have concluded that there’s not much to be done – don’t go parking a fleet of lorries on the bridge of the window, but otherwise just accept the inevitable.  (I hope they didn’t pay too much money to this consultancy firm). All of which is just another way of saying: go and see it while it’s still standing.
