This is the (in)famous pub where well-known British actor and boozer Oliver Reed met his untimely demise during the filming of ‘Gladiator’ here in Malta. That’s why there are a couple of slightly ropey scenes with him in it (he’s the gladiator trainer, if you’re confused) near the end of the movie.
The Pub is a small little place, which has not been slow to take advantage of it’s new-found celebrity. Pictures and newspaper clippings of Olly Reed feature outside the door to lure in anyone with a macabre taste in celebrity spotting. Otherwise it’s just an ordinary, nice little British pub. Nothing too fancy, pretty small, with the selection of British ales you would expect to see in such an establishment and a few chairs outside if you’re there early enough.
