Best Full English in Malta?: Villa Mare, Bugibba

They offer you a choice of fry-ups in this popular Bugibba restaurant.  You can go for a Traditional English breakfast, a Vegetarian or a Deluxe breakfast.  After careful consideration and weighing up of the pros and cons, I went for the Deluxe option.

This featured all of your standards, plus some chunky mushrooms and – rare indeed on these shores – a black pudding.  Difficult to say no to that little lot.

Not the cheapest around, at about seven euros with tea or coffee an extra, but worth it I think.  D. tried the vegetarian option and had no complaints, and the deluxe version was good enough to make it probably the best breakfast I’ve found in these parts.  So far.

You know what was disappointing though?  The little plastic butter tubs.  They use this synthetic, margarine tasting stuff and it’s just not great.  You’ve gotta pay attention to the details, it’s all about the details.  Otherwise it’s a good effort from Villa Mare.  Nice location on the square, nice homey decor, fast and friendly service so it gets our greasy stamp of approval.

  1. Every time I go to malta, this is my place of choice for breakfast every morning! It got so that my little boy would automatically head straight to a table there when we walked into the square, wether I was planning on going in there or not. Staff always so very friendly and welcoming with the waiter sneaking extra biscuits for my boy because he noticed my boy pinching them from me every time I had a cup of coffee. Looking forward to our return trip this October.
