Malta Beaches: Ghajn Tuffieha Bay

Is this the best beach in Malta?

If by best you mean ‘requires most steps to be climbed in order to get there’, then clearly the answer is Yes.  But most people don’t rate beaches in such a way.  Well if you’re asking me,  I think it’s certainly one of the best.  And those steps make a big difference.  For one thing, it dissuades people with babies and small children from making the descent, and also puts off those people in general who don’t like the combination of beach and exercise.  When I was there the place was heaving with people who positively loved the combination of beach and exercise.  There were kids running relays up and down the steps, and two separate groups of young fit people running around the perimeter of the sand.  I felt that I had done my bit by simply cheap clomid australia walking down there, and with the prospect of having to walk back up again I didn’t do a whole lot of moving about.

I’m probably overplaying the steps aspect.  It’s not exactly an ascent on Everest, just requires a little more effort than most beaches.  I visited in October, when it was pretty empty despite the blue skies and warm temperature.  I have heard it gets very crowded in high season, but then which beach doesn’t?

And here you are surrounded by greens and blues, which is usually regarded as being a nice colour combination when you’re in a natural spot.

Fearsome steps.

You get here via the buses that say ‘Ghajn Tuffieha’ (see below) so you don’t even have to go to the trouble of trying to pronounce it to the bus driver.  Good beach.

  1. What is Gnejna beach like (I believe that it is in the next bay along but accessed on a road from Mgarr).

Buses 101/102 go there but I haven’t had chance to try them yet.

  2. ”….This area is usually frequented by nudists and gays. In fact, this tiny beach is quite popular with the local gay community. (It is to be noted that Nudism is illegal in Malta, but the authorities seem to close one eye in this case)….”
Nudists and gays?! Oh my stars. Whatever next?? LOL! Sorry to disappoint, but it’s not quite the centre of hedonism the quote from another site implied!
Gnejna’s quite a good spot, usually nice clear water. I always seem to be unlucky and go there when the jellyfish population is at it’s peak! 🙁

  3. Thanks for the website – who ever you are. I have been to Malta two years ago in August – man it was hot. Going back to the same hotel for a few weeks over Easter (fly out Tuesday) This time we’ll get a car on hire to get around some more. Really looking forward to it. You website is great, keep up the good work. I did look at property on Gozo last time, but was shocked at the high prices of some of the nider places. I’ll have a look at property on Malta this time to see what its all about. A section on here about the pro’s & con’s of different areas regarding buying a place would be good – But I guess this keeps you busy as it is. All the best
