Malta Falconry Centre

This week, on our journey down some of Malta’s less well-travelled tourist tracks, we made our way to the Malta Falconry Centre in Siggiewi.

The tourist hop-on/off buses come here via the Limestone centre, so it’s not completely off the beaten track.

We arrived just in time for the demonstration held by the friendly and enthusiastic staff.  We got to see (and hold, as you can see below) Harry the Owl, and saw a sibling pair of hawks put through their swooping paces, along with a couple of more timid birds.

The presentation was fun, plenty of photo-ops and also the opportunity to check out a few more winged creatures such as our rather grumpy-looking friend in the main photo at the top of the page.

And yes, they do have falcons, so you can get a picture of a real life Maltese falcon while you’re here.

The cost was €6 per person and I reckon it’s worth it to support some people with a genuine passion and love for these birds, and also a rather novel set of photos to take home with you.

  1. I love birds of prey, I’m visiting Malta in July, although will probably give this place a miss purely because I’ve been to much larger Birds Of Prey/Falconry centres here in the UK and have even flown the birds which was awesome. I am thinking of visiting the Birdpark though. Have you been to the Splash and Fun water park?

    1. The bird park is a suprisingly nice secret destination in Malta. Not huge, but worth popping in if you are in the area. Haven’t made it to the Water Park although it is certainly a popular spot in summer.
