Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar

Palazzo Parisio
The Palazzo Parisio is the principal attraction in the town of Naxxar, near(ish) Mosta.  Naxxar looks like a nice, quiet place to live, but not much else to excite the interest of tourists (there’s a big church, and tripadvisor suggests: ‘cart ruts’ and ‘segways’).
The Palazzo Parisio is a stately home which was built about a hundred years ago, and is now open to the public (for about €15 a pop).  I confess that I have been hauled around enough stately homes in Ireland as a child not to want to shell out for another tour, (“…and this is the wash cabinet the 15th earl of Winchester used for his ablutions…”)  but if you enjoy this type of thing then this is probably the place to go in Malta.

If you prefer some fresh air, it’s free to go and wander around the beautiful gardens, which are a little oasis here in the middle of the island.  You can’t hear any noise except for the singing of the birds and it’s a very tranquil place altogether.  You can also go for a glass of something cold out in the gardens, or the ‘famous afternoon tea’ should you be of a Miss Marple-ish disposition.   Worth a visit if you find yourself out in this direction.
