Restaurant Review: Theo’s (Mdina)

This is a Greek/Turkish/Calabrian restaurant located on Mdina’s main street near
the cathedral.  (In case you’re wondering, Calabria forms the “toe” of Italy’s distinctively leg and boot shaped country.  If you are not familiar with Turkey or Greece then you should probably stick to Burger King for now).

We got there before seven, which turned out to be too early, as they weren’t open.  Not only that but there were no signs in evidence, meaning that we wandered up and down the street a few times in ever more irritated fashion until they decided to open up for business.

Worth waiting for though.  They have gone for a rustic Mediterranean interior, which chimes very well with the thick walled stone building.  We had the chef’s taster menu, which consists of dips, a four-starter sampler and a main of your choice for just €15 per person.  Good value, good food and we were only fit for waddling afterwards.

I guess a proper restaurant reviewer would see fit to include a more detailed description of the food at this juncture, liberally embellished with complex adjectives, but 20 plus years of smoking has reduced me to binary opinions on food-stuffs.  This restaurant has Good food.  I liked the moussaka because I pretty much always like a good moussaka, and this was one such.  You may prefer the bifsteka.

There’s a voluminous wine list and comfortably brisk service, and we enjoyed our visit very much, thank you.
