So here;s my Malta Top Ten, from ten to one:
10. Go clubbing in Paceville until the early hours.
9. Visit Marsaxlokk fishing village for markets, fresh fish and relaxed atmosphere.
8. Get yourself to a village Festa, when the whole town parades around, fireworks go off, and a good time is had by all. There are dozens of these over the summer months.
7. Visit the Hypogeum, atmospheric underground chambers which were created thousands of years ago.
6. Investigate the Ancient Temples like Hagar Qim and Mnajdra and the Tarxien Temples.
5. Go to Valletta, and make sure to check out the Grand Master’s palace and St John’s Co-Cathedral while you’re there. Here’s a Top 10 list for Valletta.
4. Lie on a beach! Generally speaking, the best ones are
in the North, like Paradise Bay and Mellieha
3. Take the ferry to Comino and try to beat the crowds to the Blue Lagoon.
2. Visit the ‘silent city’ of Mdina
1. Sail from the mainland to Gozo. In particular, you need to see the capital city Victoria, and the stunning rock formations at Dwejra.
Other suggestions included the following:
Mosta dome (impressive church in unimpressive town)
Diving (Malta is ranked number 3 in the world as a scuba destination);
Popeye village (anachronistic movie set/theme park);
Vittorioso (aka Birgu – one of the three cities);
Ramla Bay (popular red sandy beach on Gozo);
Ghar Dalam cave (prehistoric cave once home to many now extinct animals);
The Malta Experience (film presentation about Malta’s history);
Fort Rinella (British built fort on the Grand Harbour);
Blue Grotto (sea caverns);
Dingli cliffs (picturesque cliffs in the West of the island);
Swimming with Dolphins (at the Meditteraneo Marine Park)
Ta ‘Qali craft village (souvenirs and craftwork here)
Palazzo Parisio (mansion palace open to visitors).
Hopefully this gives you some ideas about what you might like to do here in Malta. There’s always more to do, but I think it’s safe to say that if you can tick off the list above you may consider yourself to have enjoyed an authentic taste of Malta. Bon voyage..!
(If you have any other suggestions of places to go – or to avoid – please feel free to add a comment below).

*this top 10 Malta guide is definitely not definitive. But then, which one is?
Great list! So far I have done:10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and would LOVE to do 7! xx
Thanks! The Hypogeum is definitely worth a visit, I’ve never been anywhere quite like it before, which is not something you can always say. Mind you, they’re all good really. We still have to get to see one of the Temple sites (no.6), so hopefully will manage a visit this month.
Have done 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,and 1. Visited Paceville once while on a coach to airport, do not need to go again. Agree with 90% of the list.

Going next month. Will have to check it all out!
*Space wasn’t working on that last post strangely.*
Excellent list, I’ve seen most of those attractions (not a hard feat for a small place) and highly recommend them.
Inspired by your post I’ve created my own list:)
