First thing to say: nobody got hurt, everyone was absolutely fine. Except for the two drivers concerned, you could say that it was quite a diverting break in the routine of a standard bus crawl around the island.
You could say that, except for the fact that everyone had to try and find another bus to take them home. And it was hot, and Friday, and it turned into a bit of a pain in the ass for me and I assume for many of my fellow commuters. So not ideal.
As for the accident itself, well I couldn’t say exactly who was at fault. It’s not on the usual bus route, because of diversions due to the festa on in Naxxar, and we ended up zipping down all sorts of back streets to get back in the right direction.
When the bus-driver decided to make a right turn, the car driver was clearly not expecting it. He swerved right too, and although the photo above makes it look like a gentle coming together, in fact he slid into the side of the bus with quite a slam.
From my seat ring-side I could see it coming, but didn’t have time to do much except make an ‘o’ shape with my mouth before we hit. Not much use in an emergency situation.
Like I say nobody got hurt, but take it easy out there on the roads, folks!
